ABOUT NBR
Alex Nerland, Founder/Principal of NBR Design-Build, has been buying and remodeling houses in San Francisco for more than 14 years. Alex got his degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1990 and his Contractor License in 2002. Alex has hands-on experience and is personally skilled in all aspects — from city permits to finish carpentry, from Auto CAD to plumbing — giving him the expertise to manage projects, employees and sub-contractors efficiently and to deliver projects on time. Alex’s wife, Lisa, is the Co-Designer and Project Manager for all projects. Lisa has been designing projects with Alex for NBR for 10+ years and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.

Tackling our first major remodel project was made much easier by working with Alex and Lisa. Before my husband and I began researching whom to work with, we spent time learning about the difference between a traditional Design-Bid-Build process and a Design & Build firm. We had apartment interior design, construction management services, renovation services provider, commercial general contractors, had heard agonizing tales of disappearing and difficult contractors and subcontractors from friends who'd completed remodels of various sizes and frankly didn't have the patience for such woes. So when we learned it was possible to work with a smaller pool of identifiable players who would be on board from start to finish, we were intrigued.
